“The Windlords of Io-Wah Book One: Toll Road” (32 pages, 10”x7.75”) is the first book in a 4 part comic series written and illustrated by James Greene.
Beginning as farce and ending as tragedy, readers are transported back to the year 2020 as the world endured the uncertainty and insanity of the Covid-19 pandemic. The story focuses on Jason and Milisha Baseman, who believe the pandemic and related events are all the work of a nefarious, blood drinking, Satanic cabal that secretly controls the world. Jason and Milisha see themselves as key players in an eternal fight against the cabal and so the story asks this unsettling question: If you truly believed as they do, then wouldn’t it almost seem reasonable that the cabal would eventually want to work with you?
Printed in federal blue on goldenrod paper, the book infuses dramatic Covid-noir mise-en-page with dialogue that evokes the notorious hyperbole of America’s Covid summer, 2020.
"Creative fire and a touch of brimstone! Blazingly funny and whip-smart."

“A radicalized family, a global pandemic, and a profound exploration of morality. If George Saunders made a graphic novel, it might look and read like this.”
-Dean Haspiel, (The Red Hook, Chest Face)
“Are they heroes, villains or both? Greene delivers unabashedly human characters in a parallel world that’s right beneath our feet. An absolute joy to read!"
-Russ Kazmierczak (Amazing Arizona Comics)
